What is Friendship?

  1. I think this picture is a good example of one of Aristotle's theories that contain 3 types of friendship. The first theory of friendship is pleasure. This type of friendship is very temporary and only lasts as long as the pleasure. For a friendship of utility it is pretty much the same and only lasts as long as the person is useful to you. I feel that this picture demonstrates a friendship of the good. When it says "A single soul dwelling in two bodies" it demonstrates how each friend has to want good for the other, and both need to be aware of it. They become one through having the same intentions for each other.

  2. I like the statement given in the photo because it exemplifies Aristotle's 3rd type of friendship AKA The complete friendship. In how both people have to be a like in goodness and be on the same level. The thing that makes them such a compatible pair is that they are good for each other and help each other for the better and not solely just for pleasure or solely just utility (the 1st and 2nd types of friendships in Aristotle's theory). So, to say "a single soul dwelling in two bodies" supports his statement in how they are good for each other and on the same level basically.

  3. I think this statement illustrates what a good friendship, or even relationship, should be like. Its important when having a complete, rare friendship as Aristotle explains, to make sure you take into consideration everything you do that will affect the other person. Care for them as if they are yourself. This is how I see this statement "A single soul dwelling in two bodies" connecting with Aristotles idea of friendship.
